Meschutt Beach: The Little Hamptons Beach You May Not Have Heard About. Issue No. 5

There are Long Island beaches everyone knows. The big names. The ocean beaches. The places everyone seems to head the second summer arrives. And then there are those smaller spots that somehow manage to stay a little under the radar, the places you discover and immediately think: How have we never been here before?

Meschutt Beach County Park is one of those places.

Tucked away in Hampton Bays on the Great Peconic Bay, just east of the Shinnecock Canal, Meschutt feels like one of those little East End gems you could easily pass by on your way to somewhere else. 

But take the turn.

One of the things that makes Meschutt different from so many Hamptons beaches is that you’re not on the open Atlantic.

Meschutt is a stillwater bay beach, with lifeguard-supervised swimming in season. That alone can make it especially appealing for a family beach day when you’re looking for something a little different from crashing ocean waves.  Bring the chairs, spread out the towels and settle in. And there is plenty to do beyond sitting in the sand. 

For families, it’s one of those places where you can actually make an entire day out of going to the beach.
